Benefits All-Around: Farmers' Food Donation Tax Credit Supports School Meal Programs and Food Banks

Effective 2016 to 2018, local farmers and farming corporations are encouraged to donate agricultural products produced in British Columbia to registered charities through the new Farmer’s Food Donation Tax Credit Program.

This new tax credit will be 25% of a farmer’s, or a farming corporation’s, qualifying gifts for a tax year. The Farmers’ Food Donation Tax Credit is a non-refundable income tax credit and is - in addition - to any charitable and other gift tax credit claimable.

Food banks and school meal programs amongst others are then eligible to receive certain agricultural products during the 2016 to 2018 tax years.

For more information on the new agricultural tax credit and on how charities can benefit from agricultural products, visit the provincial government's website, call 1.877.387.3332, or email ITBTaxQuestions@gov.bc.ca

Our agricultural community plays an instrumental role in the economy of the Township of Langley. This provincial program provides tax credit benefit opportunities to our farmers and local food product opportunities to organizations supporting our community.
