Investing in Aldergrove

More of a mix than a blend, Aldergrove combines rural land, residential neighbourhoods, and a business core into a single distinct community. Located on the Township’s eastern border, Aldergrove has transitioned from a thoroughfare along Fraser Highway, into a destination in its own right. Don’t overlook this growing community, or you’ll miss out! Aldergrove is home to some very special cultural anchors in our region, and is going through a time of investment and transformation.

On summer nights in Aldergrove, people young and old are sent back in time to an era of bench seats, antenna radios, and double-features at the Twighlight Drive-in, the only outdoor theatre of its kind in the Metro Vancouver region. The Langley Good Times Cruise-in also calls Aldergrove home, drawing car enthusiasts from far and wide to view hot rods, classics, and muscle cars, as well as enjoy live entertainment and tasty eats from local vendors.

In June 2015, with a growing population of over 12,000 and a need for a recreation hub, Township Mayor and Council announced the construction of a new recreation and community centre for Aldergrove; a state-of-the art, year-round complex featuring arena, indoor running track, fitness centre, competition size pool, leisure pool, waterslides, aqua play structure, lazy river, wave pool, hot tub, playground and picnic area. A facility that Aldergrove residents would be able to access inexpensively year-round, and become an attraction destination in BC’s lower mainland. In 2018, the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre and Otter Coop Outdoor Experience opened its doors to the public to much fanfare and delight!

This facility made such an economic impact in Aldergrove, that the Township of Langley won the prestigious BC Economic Development Association 2019 Stan Rogers Memorial Award in recognition for a project making the most significant economic impact in a community.

With increasing numbers frequenting this new facility in the downtown business core, new businesses and budding entrepreneurs have shown interest in becoming a greater part of the community. Leased business space is now at a premium, and a significant piece of land in the business core is going through a redevelopment process, with plans to bring further revitalization and mixed-use space to Aldergrove.

As well as the flashy and fun features of Aldergrove, investment has been happening behind the scenes and underground, through multiple infrastructure projects. Following the completion of a $20 million dollar sewer and drainage system, a $35 million investment by the municipality was made resulting in the new East Langley Water Supply becoming operational and serving Aldergrove. Additionally a new water treatment system was completed at the cost of $6.5 million, and a new $1.5 million detention pond was constructed to provide for storm water management. Local capacity for sufficient sanitary sewer services was equally required for the area to allow for large projects such as the new recreation facility. In 2015, Metro Vancouver announced $63 million in upgrades to the Northwest Langley

Wastewater Treatment Plant to improve effluent quality, enhance environmental protection, and accommodate projected area population growth. Separately, a municipal infrastructure upgrade to the trunk sewer in Aldergrove was equally undertaken and completed in late 2017; at an estimated cost of $2 million.

Looking forward to 2019 and beyond, several projects are in the works. Additional bicycle facilities and safer bicycle routes are being worked on in the higher density area of Aldergrove. A much-anticipated disc golf course is being planned, which will host the BC Disc Golf Open in July 2019. The ACUCC will also be host to a number of games during the 2019 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championships.

From infrastructure projects to new recreation opportunities to business core upgrades, it’s no wonder Aldergrove is becoming a new destination in the Lower Mainland!
