Round Two: Age-Friendly Business Applications Open Now!

With a successful first year pilot program complete, we’ve opened a second round of applications for the Township’s Age-friendly Business Recognition Program.

Seniors are the fastest-growing age group in Canada and are healthier, better educated, and wealthier than previous generations. In a community where 37% of the population is aged 50 plus, businesses can take small steps to make a big difference in meeting the needs of aging customers and building a loyal customer base.

Age-Friendly Program

The Township of Langley Age-friendly Business Recognition Program acknowledges local businesses that have made a commitment to age-friendly business practices.

In June 2019, a new pilot project was started in Walnut Grove, where local senior residents were invited to nominate area businesses they felt were age-friendly according to a set of criteria. The nominated businesses were then invited to complete a full  Age-friendly Business self-assessment in order to qualify to be a recognized Age-friendly Business.  We’ve had such a positive response, with 11 Walnut Grove businesses being selected to receive the Township’s Age-Friendly Business Recognition Certificate!

It’s not too late for your business to get involved. Complete this Age-friendly Business self-assessment and submit it before the July 31, 2019 deadline.

By being recognized as an Age-friendly Business, your customers will know you are committed to serving customers of all ages and abilities with dignity and respect, and that you’ve pledged to meet the criteria of accessibility, customer service, visibility, and safety. Not only will becoming more age-friendly help local businesses build a loyal customer base in the years to come, participating companies will also be acknowledged for being part of the Township’s socially-inclusive community.
