Workforce Development: Investing in the Trades

Langley youth wanting to get into the trades have received a boost from the province.

The Langley School District has been awarded $40,000 in provincial funding for the "Youth Work in Trades" program for the current school year.

The program allows students to begin their apprenticeships while earning graduation credit and logging apprenticeship training hours.

Employer participants of the program benefit from provincial and federal income tax credits as well as new and young employees who are eager to learn their trades.

"This funding will keep boots on the ground by covering much needed staffing costs to help students realize their apprenticeship dreams," said Vice-Principal of Career Education, Edna Schuerhaus.

The Langley School District is keen to talk with employers who may be interested in taking part in the program. Those interested are encouraged to contact the District’s Career Education Department at 604.534.7891, extension 232.
